Johnny Tremain


Unit 1
1-1 Johnny was the boss of the household, especially the attic and the two boys Dove and Dusty.
1-2 Dove and Johnny hated each other, always fighting and arguing.
3-1 Johnny is very serious about his future. He wants to run a wealthy shop with men and boys begging to work there.
3-2 The patriots dislike the British and want to stop any rule from them in America.
4-1 Johnny cares greatly about his work, and he wants to impress Mr. Hancock and Mr. Lapham.
6-1 The Crest of the Lytes was an eye raising up from the sea, with streams of lights looking like eye lashes. The Crest of the Lytes conveys happiness and great fortune of the Lytes.

Unit 2
1-1 Johnny turns down Paul Revere's offer because if he left the Lapham household nothing would ever get done.
3-1 One event that lead to Johnny's accident was he worked on Sunday when he knew he shouldn't have. The other problem was the pot that had a crack in it that Dove and Dusty gave him.
5-1 Johnny's life changes drastically after the accident. Now, Johnny is worth less than Dove and Dusty and has to do small silly chores, unlike his important silversmithing he used to do.

Unit 3
1-1 Rab sees Johnny's crippled hand but says nothing about it and does not stare at it at all. Johnny likes Rab. Rab is intelligent and very nice. Rab also says nothing about Johnny's hand.
3-1 Johnny's value will be a lot lower. Just like brass is worth less than silver.

Unit 4
1-1 Merchant Lyte is very rich, over confident, and rude. He won't even accept Johnny as being part of his family.

5-2 Mr. Lyte had no evidence that Johnny stole the cup.

Unit 5
2-1 Johnny must get messages from person to person as quick as possible. Now, the Whigs have a trustworthy person to help communications between them.
3,4-1 Johnny liked his new life, but he was a little homesick from the Lapham's household.
3,4-2 People often live up to the expectations of others because they feel they have to, and they won't please themselves or others if they don't.
3,4-3 Rab told Johnny to not let unimportant things upset him easily.
3,4-4 The Observer's Club goes against the American government.

Unit 6
5-1 Johnny learns how to chop wood with an axe to play a part in the tea party.

Unit 7
1-1 The port at Boston would be shut down and Britan would not let any boat enter or leave. Boston would also have to pay a heavy tax for all the tea.
1-2 The punishment was harsh enough that people were on Boston's side when it came to not paying the tax. The port at Boston was so large that it affected all the colonies when it came to trading with foreign countries.

3-1
3-2 Johnny was a rebel just like Dove, but Dove said he was on the British side. Johnny was changed by Rab to be a more kind and loving person.
4-1 Johnny felt bad for Mrs. Lapham. Mr. Lapham had just died, leaving Mrs. Lapham alone with the girls and having to do much work. She was always a hard worker when Johnny was around and helped the family greatly.
5-1 Mrs. Bessie was Sam Adams spy in the Lyte household.


Unit 8
1-1 The rebels pursued the Lytes in a mob because the Lytes agreed with the British governmnt.
2-1Johhnny finds his moter in the tree annd also finds his father named Doctor Charles Latour. His dad died before he was born, and both his mother and father died of plague in Marseilles.
2-2 Johnny is referring to his old life of being a silver smith, then being a messenger and living with the Lytes. He is saying it is the beginning of his new life.
5-1 James Otis was talking about the freedom from cruel and tyrant governments all around the world.


Unit 9
1-1
3-1 Johnny has changed a lot from the beginning of the book. He used to be mean and bossy, but now he is a lot nicer, stronger, and more prepared for tougher situations.
3-2 The Minute are preparing by planning ahead and having meetings. Lieutenant Stranger is even working with Johnny himself.
5-1 He saw his friends and thought about how Pumpkin would never get the farm he wanted, and how Rab got his musket but might not live to use it a lot. His life flashed before his eyes.


Unit 10
1-1 Paul Revere and Doctor Warren know the attacks are coming. Johnny hangs around the Affric Queen enough to piece things together that British attacks are coming to Lexington and Concord. The British were loading boats and getting ready to go over seas.
1-2 The lantern in the church will flash. The rebels know the attacks will be coming.
2-1 Rab knew that attacks would break out and he was excited to be a part of it. Johnny was very sad that Rab was leaving, but Rab insisted that Johnny did not go.

Unit 11
1-1 Lexington was the first battle. The men were defeated because they were outnumbered and not prepared.
3-1 All of the leaders have already fled to the battle.
4-1 Johnny was persistent in insisting that he was related to the Lytes.
5-1 Johnny means that when there is peace he is just a child who tries to enjoy life and have little worries. When war comes along he is very serious and tried to help out.


Unit 12
1-1 Johnny gives his apprentice a red coat.
2-1 The rebels were outnumbered and outskilled. The rebels had very little experience against the powerful British.
3-1 Johnny is very emotional while standing there. He thinks about how Rab died there and gets very sad.
5-1 Rab died because he was seriously injured in battle and couldn't handle all the blood loss. He feels defeated because he comes back from a wild goose chase to find Rab's parents and to Rab being dead.
5-2 Johnny now has a thumb and he feels that his hand injury has made him stronger throughout his life. Johnny now thinks others instead of just himself.
